That is a true statement.

I confess just a little envy when I saw this on the seafront a couple of

No, I wasn't bidding. There are some great bargains to be had there at
the moment! I know you'd just love looking at a 5K retina screen to see
thngs with tremendous clarity. You'll never know until you look for
yourself. Things have undergone tremendous changes over recent years.

I'm not keen on blue, so I like the red one best!

Does it ever get you into the centre of Edinburgh?

Let's call it good value for money! ;-)

I've never regretted buying the iMacs which I own.

The 27 inch one is far superiour to the 24 inch one which I first bought
in 2009.

Yes, and I got a fucking parking ticket for "visiting a resident in the 'wrong' residents bay", despite the whole road being almost clear.

You don't measure computers in inches. A screen and a computer a are seperate items and should be bought/upgraded seperately.

I like the ability to turn a monitor on and off by switching its power,
without affecting the computer. Something you can't do with am iMac. One
switch turns on monitors, lights, fans, etc... when I enter the room.
Too bad the TV doesn't work that way (power amnesia, where it forgets to
be on).

For my PC I have 5 monitors, I just lock the screen (Windows-L in Windows) which makes the monitors go to sleep within a minute. When I want them back on, I just press a key or move the mouse, then enter a password (this prevents pets from activating it and doing things).

My lights are all on timers and/or PIR sensors.

> Too bad the TV doesn't work that way (power amnesia, where it forgets to be on).

My humidifier was like that, until I inserted a relay. I needed to control it from an external humidistat.

You don't need extra software to do that. I can program my PC power button to switch them off for example.

That is NOT equivalent to what I was describing. That software could
turn the monitor off, but what about the other stuff (ceiling fan,
lights, TV, etc)? A separate monitor allows turning it all off with ONE
switch.

You can get devices that your computer can control that turn off mains with a relay (plug in stuff). In fact the first time I encountered such things was in the 80s, it was called a red box or something, and a ZX Spectrum controlled it!

Yes, although a separate monitor power cord allows something simpler.

Are you telling me macs still have the monitor powered through the computer?! I last saw that on PCs in about 1990. And even then it was an IEC passthrough which you could easily change.

The all-in-one has a single power cord. What would you expect?

Yes you could, so I wouldn't consider those a problem. I was thinking of
an iMac, which has the monitor as part of the system unit, with no
external connection.

Why would anyone buy something where either of the two halves breaking requires it to be repaired or replaced?
