Corrupt files probably caused by unplugging the computer.

Overheating can be a cause, as Ed Cryer says, and also bad sectors on
the disk. I'll leave to others how to find those with Windows, but I
would seek for the Windows version of Smartmontools.

I would not do too many victory laps with that software.

It reports "good drive", even when objective reports say
the drive is not good. So don't be waving that message
around for all to see, followed by the disk no longer working.

If you do a Disk Transfer benchmark, you can sometimes see
troubled parts of the disk drive, before Reallocated Raw
comes off the pegs (is non-zero). I had a disk once, where
Reallocated was zero, and the OS was so slow (due to reallocations),
I had to clone over to a new working disk. SmartMonTools would
have used the Reallocated=0 to conclude "Good Disk" and just
looking and feeling the sick disk behavior (5 to 10 MB/sec),
told you otherwise.

Reallocated > 0 works best if the errors are uniformly spewed
over the entire drive. If, on the other hand, the Reallocations
are in a narrow band, SMART says "Good Drive" and so does
SmartMonTools. And I know this, because it happened to me.

The reliability of Smartmontools is completely dependent on what the
disk firmware itself says. The application doesn't do any testing
whatsoever, does not create any report. Instead, it tells the disk to
test itself, and then extracts and prints what the disk firmware has
written inside the disk and formats it for human reading.

So, if Smartmontools says the disk is healthy, it is in fact the disk
itself saying "I am healthy". If this is not true, blame the
manufacturer for incomplete/incorrect self testing.
