Hi All,

Had a customer who constantly had a black irfanview
widows pop up every time he started up.

Nothing in start up. Nothing in sysinternals Autoruns
for irfanview.

Changed his default to M$ Photo. Still got an irfanview
pop up. So I uninsalled and reinstalled Irfanview.
Still got the pop up.

So I uninstalled again and this time reinstalled in a different
directory. Problem solved.

What the heck?

Really? Did you check the Windows logfiles? I wouldn't be
surprised if there's an entry saying Irfanview couldn't
be started, with the old location.

Yes. Hundreds of them found.
When I removed irfanveiw and reboot, I found no
complaining about not finding irfanview. Nothing
is the system logs either.
Reinstalled irfanveiw and back with the popup.

Yes and nothing. I removed and rebooted hoping
to trigger a message or a complaining pop up.

Did you reboot before you reinstalled Irfanvies?
Some time you need that reboot, to insure the unistall is complete and
reorder the configuration files.

Yes

You know, it occures to me that I could now search
the registry for the old path to irfanview to find
the culprit.

This was only one of four pop ups I had to dispatch

In order to dial out, it is necessary to broaden one's dimension.
