Yeah - but how often do you replace a fucking motherboard? That's not
even a replacement, really, but starting from the beginning. When you
self-build a computer, the motherboard's manufacturer basically is
your OEM, for all intents and purposes. Whereas a power supply, when
you buy an inferior one, may be replaced more routinely.

I've never replaced a motherboard, whether it was fucking or not.

I've also never replaced a power supply.

The only computer components I remember ever replacing were an SSD,
several years ago, and a DVD drive even longer ago.

You claim this, yet it's never happened. Probably because two wrongs don't make a right. In civilised countries (that's anywhere except the US), if you broke into my house and I killed you, I would be in the wrong too. In fact you'd be in trouble for breaking and entering, and I'd be in trouble for murder. So MS won't do that.

So they've made it even less useful.

I've never understood why they have a wordpad and a notepad. Just have the wordpad.

Then you need to work your machines harder. Collectively between my machines I'm currently doing 50 trillion calculations per second.

Quite often, being physically large they are very susceptible to heat causing flexing damage.

WTF? Get the same model and the computer won't even notice. Get a different one and you have to stick on a few drivers, which it will probably do itself anyway.

What the hell are you talking about? A computer is more than a motherboard.

You're obviously not very good with your hands.

Uh, the key, but I actually wouldn't even need to enter it, because
I've already activated this machine with it.

Anyone can have a key, you could have got that from a naughty website.

Of course, more power to people who do it that way, but I like the
fact that my key is private info between Microsoft and myself. They
recognize me as the one who bought it, and is using it with the same
Microsoft account. It's peace of mind.

I know that, but if I look at my Microsoft account, it shows this
machine as the brand name of the manufacturer of the motherboard. It's
what identifies a self-built machine.

I'm OK with my hands, that really isn't relevant. It's annoying to
assemble a computer, but not difficult enough that it isn't worth
doing, to get a better machine for the money. Even including the $200
I spent on Windows, I got a far superior box to what I'd get from
Dell.

In civilised countries (that's anywhere except the US), if you broke into my house and I killed you, I would be in the wrong too. In fact you'd be in trouble for breaking and entering, and I'd be in trouble for murder. So MS won't do that.

They want software pirates to use their products, but that could
always change. You have no guarantee of anything.

I certainly enjoyed picking out the parts, and installing Win10. The
assembly itself was annoying, but absolutely worth it.

These days, I recommend one with the "BIOS flash updater" button
on the back. To get my Ryzen running, I had to flash up. It took
me a half-dozen tries, before the LED came on indicating it
was interested :-)

When I first fired up, ye olde screen remained black. And
I said to myself "you know, I'm feeling like I have a
sudden need to flash a BIOS". And that's all it was.
You need the right file system on the USB stick,
plus the exactly right filename.

Just an fyi...
A few days ago Marketwatch.com in conjunction with StackSocial a
sanctioned, legal Microsoft Partner was offering:
O2K21 Home and Business for MAC - perpetual license, $49
O2K21 Pro Plus for Windows -perpetual license, $49
- both were legitimate offers, one-time offer download via Partner,
also about/close to the same price as employe store pricing, unredeemed
licenses(i.e. return for credit in not activated) 30 day allowance.

Also note, Microsoft 365(fka Office 365) is now at 2022 versioning which
may be part of the reason and also consistent with past partner offered
discounts on ProPlus 2019 and 2017 as part of inventory reduction.

Options:

1) Pay MS loads of cash.
2) Pay someone else less cash and hope it's legit.
3) Don't pay anyone and it's more likely to work without hiccups than the real thing.

It's not 365 so the applications will stop updating after a while but
it's still Office 2021 and if you don't care about the latest features,
you're good. I could have just used the 365 I get from work for free but
I don't like the fact that it installs my work OneDrive onto my personal
computer so I would rather have my own license and use it as I wish.

It's legitimate because it's tied to my Microsoft account and I can
reinstall from the accounts page on microsoft.com.

As for where I got it, it was one of the deals on BleepingComputer.com.
Every so often, they have such stuff including lifetime subscriptions to
VPNs and stuff of the sort.

Quite interesting. My personal preference is LibreOffice, but I could
certainly understand why you purchased this deal.

Friend, whether you use 2010, 2003, 97 or 6.0, I don't care. I'm not
trying to sell you a product.

I wasn't asking you to sell me a product. I just inquired what they have
done to it in 10 years that makes it any better. If you don't know, or
don't wish to reply for any reason, please don't feel any sense of
obligation. I wasn't really asking you in particular anyway, I was just
putting the question out there for anyone who may wish to answer. Cheers!
