Every once in a while, almost certainly due to a misclick somewhere, my
main taskbar moves to the wrong monitor. Why? How do I switch it back?

# Maybe some combo of the controls at the bottom is doing this ?
# Not particularly suggestive it can do what you describe. Like,
# does not sound like a design intent. It's possible the declaration
# of "what is the main monitor" might have changed on you. With the Taskbar
# "locked", that should not happen.

I had a dual FX5200 video card setup, unceremoniously change monitor
sets on me. One card was Card0 one second, the next it became Card1,
and the monitor layout was all screwed up. And this was likely to be
an issue at the NVidia driver level, rather than a flaw in Windows.
It wasn't keyboard input or mouse clicks that did it. Just
a driver oopsy.

Check the monitor ID numbers, and see if something has been
switched on you.

There is no button.
No setting anywhere.
No monitor switch exists.
It doesn't matter which monitor is which.
Nothing will work that you would normally would think would work.

You just leftgrab the taskbar and push it to another edge of either the
same monitor or to any edge of any other monitor.

It's too simple to be obvious.
Until you know that.

Even with the TaskBar lock set ?

If you did not have the Lock on, you would soon notice
that things were to "grabby". And the lock switch was needed.

An example is the tick box at the top here.

https://www.tenforums.com/attachments/general-support/74584d1485965211t-multiple-monitors-taskbar-issues-taskbar-capture.png

If that had been moved to Settings wheel,
there would be a different decoration but the same intent.

The Taskbar can only be locked, at the Taskbar level.

If the machine changes from a 2-monitor to a 1-monitor config,
this may have consequences to the visual decorations seen on screen.
The Taskbar level can only do its best to honor the settings,
as a function of what monitors are connected. Or claim to
be connected. Monitors are detected by termination impedance.
(75 ohms VGA, 100 ohms diff on digital standards)

Usually, people who run multiple monitors, learn all about
the underlying tech, just from all the little bugs and
surprises presented. I'm unlikely to see this on
my puny one-monitor systems.

I'm sure it won't work with the taskbar lock set but then it wouldn't have
been accidentally moved in the first place so the lock is probably not set.
