Microsoft Edge Chromium (Edge-C) has IE11 support (IE Mode) if you
really need it to render some ancient encoded HTML document, or you want
to see how bad IE11 has become as sites have move forward farther into
HTML5 and other web technologies.

In Edge-C, Settings -> Default browser -> Allow sites to be loaded in
Internet Explorer mode

What is Internet Explorer (IE) mode?
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/deployedge/edge-ie-mode

I haven't needed IE11 for m-a-n-y years now. So long ago that I cannot
remember when I last used IE11. And it was probably on someone else's
computer that didn't have a much better web browser installed, like
Firefox.

I have (for work) three “ancient” HTML documents which needed to be opened in IE.
I now open them in Edge with shortcut command lines like this:

msedge.exe --ie-mode-file-url document.html

I remember when W10 came out and still had IE11. Its Edge sucked though
until it got Chromium engine.

I remember a time when MS updates could only be done via IE, other
browsers being rebuffed at the point of query.

I rarely use Edge as a fallback browser, but only because I distrust
Google Chrome even more.

I have the update, but it didn't remove IE, I launched it from the start menu,
it came up with a little yellow banner saying Internet Explorer had retired on

Yes....it was not done strictly via IE. It was that Windows Update(for
Windows 9x) was only coded for and capable of using IE.

I use 3 different browsers Edge, SeaMonkey and Chrome - each has their
uniqueness, benefits, settings and weaknesses.

The deprecation and removal is staged. It will be some time before
'removal' occurs. On June 15 the process to 'start' redirection when
opening IE to Edge begins. IE Mode in Edge is not impacted until(iirc,
2029).

For more timing related details(see below):
"IE will be retired in two phases to ensure a quality driven retirement.
During the first phase, the redirection phase, devices will be
progressively redirected from IE to Microsoft Edge over the next few
months after June 15, 2022. Following industry best practices, this
progressive redirection will be quality-driven to ensure a smooth IE11
retirement for you and your organization. To minimize the level of
potential business disruption within an organization at one time, not
all devices will be redirected at the same time. This approach is
designed so that you can quickly identify and resolve any potential
issues, such as missed sites, before all devices within your
organization are redirected. The intent is for the redirection phase for
all devices with Windows platforms that are in-scope for IE retirement
to be complete in the next few months.

Note: Windows Updates are not used to redirect devices during the
redirection phase.

The second phase of retirement is the Windows Update phase. After the
redirection phase completes, IE will be permanently disabled through a
future Windows Update on all devices with Windows platforms that are
in-scope for IE retirement. It will follow the standard Windows update
process as part of an optional preview “C” release followed by a “B”
Patch Tuesday release. Given the cumulative nature of Windows Updates,
IE disablement will persist in subsequent Windows Updates."

At that time, one of the few things I used IF for. IIRC, IE6 was the
current version when I stopped using IE for most things.

Now, I'm just using it to check my website, although not as much since I
removed some code from my website (that was a workaround for some IE
inadequacies). Mostly, this just affects IE users (although it also
affects Opera 7-8, from a time when Opera was adware).

BTW, for some reason my website has a lot of users on Windows Vista
(just checked this month).

I use Firefox most of the time. I used to use Opera as a fallback, now
both Opera and Edge are too much like Google Chrome.

That's what I got on Windows 10. I don't have Windows 8 (because I don't
want a iPhone).

Yes. But for me, IE is the only browser now that will work with my
old Foscam webcams.

Too many users out there that might hurt themselves I guess on an
older browser.

You might post a link to your Excel macro and perhaps others will see
how it could be adapted to support other browsers.

https://pastebin.com/ could be one such place to host your macro, or
perhaps Dropbox.

I can certainly believe that, however it's not Microsoft's responsibility
to keep supporting all those non-standard applications. There's a time when
those need to be updated and that time was about 10 years ago ;)

Maybe there's some other way to do it. You could look for an SDK
and see if perhaps someone made a sample app with one. Who knows,
maybe VLC could access the camera.

The situation was never a good one, from day one.

Yes, VLC can access my old Foscam cameras but you need IE to set them
up. My experience with Foscam is that that their hardware is pretty high
quality, but their software is diabolical and their "customer service"
even worse.

Right. Moreover, I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft sometimes
purposely makes changes to cause non-Microsoft applications to fail.
