In Windows Task Scheduler, I often create tasks which run every x hours or every x minutes. But how do I make it do the first one? At the moment I have to say trigger at startup then reboot them machine, or the task isn't yet live and doesn't do the auto repeat. Running it manually isn't classed as a trigger.

Run a batch at login or boot with the following for each task:
SCHTASKS /RUN /TN [task name] > NUL

How would that help? They already run when the machine is booted up, the problem is they don't run right now when I create them. If I say "do this every 5 minutes", why do I have to put in some kind of initial trigger? They won't do the first run until a specified thing happens, like "startup".

Can you simply log out rather than reboot?
It would be faster, but yes, one would think there would be a "run now" button.

It's 6 remote machines. It's actually faster to send a reboot command than to send a lock and unlock (which then needs a password) or a log out and in.

There is a run now button, but it doesn't count as a trigger for some reason, and it doesn't get run again.

All I've found is to put an additional trigger "when event is edited".

I had one trigger (startup) and repeat every 5 minutes.

Not sure how "on a schedule" would help me. I have tasks which I want to run every x minutes or hours, and I want to run them one day then off a week later than on again another day. I want them to start doing their x minutes repeat when I turn them on, but there doesn't seem to be a simple way to do this. The scheduling system is obsessed with having a trigger event to get it going, like it's an internal combustion engine or something. All I want to say is "run every 10 minutes". If I tell you to do something every 10 minutes, I don't have to give you a start time, it's from now!

Make two scheduled task with different names but running same item.
-one run on Start up
-one run on schedule

Look at command SCHTASKS to see options and make shortcuts to run the
appropriate command for the on a schedule task.

I don't want shortcuts. I want it to run every x minutes forever more, until I disable it. Then when I re-enable it I want it ro run every x minutes again.

What I've done in the meantime is make one task with two triggers. On startup, and on editing. So every time the computer reboots it continues running it. And if I want to switch it on, I just have to edit it and come out again. If only you could just make one that doesn't need a trigger. I only have one requirement, "run every x minutes", but apparently M$ don't want us to make tasks that simple.

one last comment. You do not want a shortcut but are willing to go to
the task scheduler which takes more time. How do you turn it off? Task
Sched End? Single click shortcuts sure seem easier to use then a click
to get to SchTasks followed by more. YMMV so carry on.

I don't know what you want this shortcut to do. A shortcut to turn the task on and off perhaps would be useful, but it's not much hassle to open the task scheduler. I don't want to go to a lot of trouble to save a few clicks, but I do want to go to a lot of trouble to not have to reboot 6 computers.
