So, yes, let me be frank from the start. The following rant is
entirely stupid and probably all of you will wonder why I get so upset
over such a minor thing. I can't answer that; it's just one of those
small annoyances in life that - for whatever reasons - seems a lot
more egregious than it really is. But every time it happens, I feel my
blood pressure inch up just a little bit more (and also, before you
assume I'm a wild-tempered madman, my peevish annoyance should be
assumed to be given a bit tongue-in-cheek).

So what is this terrible, sinful think of what I speak?

It's when digital storefronts dare - DARE! - to send me an email
telling me that a game I put onto my wishlist during a sale... happens
to be on sale.

Yes, I know, it's petty. But god, it pisses me off, if only because I
know how easy it is to avoid. Just code it so the trigger to send the
email only trips after the current discount ends; it's not really that
hard. GOG is the worst offender, but Steam does it too.

Now, in fairness, I'm not talking about the emails notifying me about
sales in general. I actually like the things: 'Hey, this game you
showed interest in is now discounted 20%; take a look!' Even if I
don't buy it (and for a mere 20% discount? Hah, not likely!) the email
at least gives me an excuse to stop working for a bit and look at
video games. If I didn't like these emails, I'd just unsubscribe,
after all. No, I want these notifications.

But if I look at a game while its on sale and say, "Hmm, maybe I want
this, but it's still to expensive, so onto the wishlist it goes", and
ten minutes later I get an email telling me, "this game is on sale",
that's useless information. That's interrupting my workflow for no
good purpose. I know it's on sale! I was just there! That's when the
blood boils. That's when the steam comes out of my ears. That's when
the pointless and long rants get posted to Usenet!

I know, I know; it's completely stupid to get upset over something so
minor.

But if it weren't for stuff like that, what would I talk about here?

;-)

How upset you get when games are free most likely.

I've done good in this world. Now I'm tired and just want to be a cranky
dirty old man.

Bugs me too. I'm not as clearly apoplectic about it as you are, but my
right eye does twitch a bit when it happens. ;^)

My pet peeve, if I have a tag on my ignore list that means I want to
ignore it even if the game is on sale.
