Following a recent update the chromium browser is again
not working correctly. The most obvious defect is a persistent
"page unresponsive" window when trying to view YouTube.

Firefox-ESR works fine, so it isn't YouTube's fault.

If anybody's got a hint please share it.

uname -a reports
Linux raspberrypi 6.1.21-v8+ #1642 SMP PREEMPT Mon Apr 3 17:24:16 BST 2023
aarch64 GNU/Linux

The chromium browsers "about" window reports
Version 113.0.5672.95 (OfficialBuild) built on Debian, running on Debian 11
(64-bit)

For some reason I had to transcribe that line, select-right-click-copy
didn't work. Not sure it's significant, never tried that before.

Thanks for reading and any guidance.

I don't know if that is related to the problems I've been having with
Chromium 113 and the BBC News website on my Bullseye Pi 4s, where all
apart from the first picture on the page isn't displayed, videos aren't
displayed too. I removed ublock origin and no-script to eliminate them,
and it still happens with no extensions.

Firefox-ESR shows the BBC News website correctly, however it's
noticeably slower, videos do work though.

That's most curious. I'm looking now at
https://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-56837908
and the display seems just fine. There are lots of images,
all loaded and looking reasonable.

YouTube still won't load.

Try going down to a story page. The BBC loads images in articles on
demand via javascript.

Must be a different problem as it loads for me and plays videos.

The story on solar panel recycling seems to load fine, pictures and all.

The story about tornados, consisting of a video, didn't load, couldn't
be paused either.

Surely some mistake. Trouble is what the liberal politician seeks out,
identifies, and then manages to propose state engendered solutions to,
that manifestly will not fix it, so that it remains a problem, and an
excuse for yet more centralised bureaucracy, state subsidy, and
restriction of personal freedom to fix it better.
The logical progressions of this is full communism, where nothing works,
and the politicians are the problem.

And this is just as true of right-wing extremists. As a wise person

Mr. Philospher, very well said.

I see I wrote unclearly. I should have used the slightly longer
version of the last word. Here's the new-and-improved version:

Indeed: trouble is usually served up by con artists. ;-)

The 30s era fascists only differed from the communists in the
aspirations of their supporters. The end result was the same. A narrow
totalitarian elite.

I suspect a similar situation to that of Europe in the '30s is currently
developing in left-pondian political circles. The parallels are
'interesting' to say the least.

My point exactly - and it still applies today.

Political tags - such as royalist, communist, democrat, populist,
fascist, conservative, and so forth - are never basic criteria.
The human race divides politically into those who want people to
be controlled and those who have no such desire. The former are
idealists acting from highest motives for the greatest good of
the greatest number. The latter are surly curmudgeons, suspicious
and lacking in altruism. But they are more comfortable neighbors
than the other sort.

Good stuff!

I've just been re-reading Heinlein: 'Methuselah's Children', 'Time Enough
For Love'.(Are the other LL stories as good?) Followed those two off with
'Friday'.

FWIW I tend to rate 'The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress' and 'Job' with those LL
tales.

You forgot the capitalist
Now The US Military Industrial Complex sucking the taxpayer for wars they create to sell their useless crap (F35 etc)
a loss making industry (losing wars in Vietnam, Afghanistan, etc)...
and their politician clowns and slaves now raising the debt limit and reducing spending on everything for their own people.
EXCEPT that military complex.
They are not even under attack, but may well be soon, destroyed!
I was just reading the UK soldiers need food banks to make ends meet...
