I would like the PC to produce an alphanumeric sequence when I press a
key combination: for example, I would like CTRL+F9 to generate the
sequence 1234-789. Is it possible?

Yes, but not (as far as I know) in native windows.

It's quite simple with the free Autohotkey
<https://www.autohotkey.com/>
and similar tools.

Write a VBscript that uses SendKeys to type out what you need. Right-click
the .vbs file and select "create shortcut". Right-click the generated
shortcut and select "properties". Click the "shortcut key" box and press
whatever control sequence you want. Click OK. Test.

On my machine, it sometimes (inconsistently) takes the focus away from the
current program, so I added a 1-second delay, plenty of time to click where
you want it to enter your text.

Sample script:

Set WshShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
WScript.Sleep 1000 'milliseconds
WshShell.SendKeys "1234-789"

Yes. I also recommend Autohotkey

Thanks, I have had some initial problems, but now it seems to work properly.

On Windows 10, if clipboard history is enabled (and it's generally a great
feature) you can copy/save something, and pin it,s o it persists. I've never
felt the need to do this, so I don't know if it survives sessions, but it's
there, and it's built-in.

This article
<https://www.howtogeek.com/671222/how-to-enable-and-use-clipboard-
history-on-windows-10/>
says "unless an item is pinned to the Clipboard, the Clipboard
history list will reset every time you restart your computer or
device."

That suggests pretty strongly that a pinned item will remain after a
reboot.

That said, I used Clipboard History for a while, and had severe
enough problems that I abandoned that I Went back to Clipdiary. It's
been a few months, and I can't remember the nature of the problems.

I see this morning that a pinned item in the clipboard history does indeed
survive an overnight shutdown. I've never had any problems with CH, and I use
it constantly.
