In my case I'm simply guilty of not giving longer posts in this NG
more than a very cursory scanned read, so most of the intentional
clues (aside from the 4/1 date itself) didn't take hold... instead of
reading the post I just "quick-scanned for crux" as they say.

There were also just as many believable elements as there were clues
it was BS, which is what made it work. The pivotal one that allowed
it to fly under my radar was the fact that you did actually take an
unannounced hiatus from Usenet not long back, so I thought maybe a new
departure was a pattern I've seen before from prolific content
producers.

Example-- I regularly watch this guy on Youtube who is (from a
psychological standpoint) one of the more fascinating people I've ever
seen put themselves on display. He has this pattern of here-today,
gone-tomorrow Youtube stints...he's a synthesizer enthusiast/guitarist
that's about my age, and his videos are a combination of bad music,
rants about the synthesizer industry, parodies of things and trolling
of other people, and occasionally some fairly clever video editing.
Once every 60 days or so he rage-deletes his YT channel and declares
his permanent departure.... inevitably, within a few days he's back
and posting content again. I think he's one of those whose life is
just in a constant state of crisis. I keep going back to check in on
him, I guess, because he does have something to say about synthesizer
manufacturers even if his presentation is a bit nuts, and there is
something impish and likeable about him.

Anyway when I saw your post I thought maybe it was a sign you were
undergoing some crisis like this or just legitimately burnt out on
writing about games on NG (which in itself is a believable idea given
the current state of new game releases these days).

But yeah the Twitter thing didn't give it away to me, because I don't
use these social media services at all (either posting to or reading
them). I was aware of the 140 character restriction only from reading
about Twitter maybe 12 years ago, but I thought I had read at some
point that restriction was removed later on... I'm definitely guilty
of being oblivious to social media trends.

I don't even know about Twitter's character limit. I have zero
interest in using Social Media. Usenet is social media enough for me.

To paraphrase someone else, I like social media it's the people who use
social media I have a problem with.

I did, several years ago, try a little experiment to see how easy it is
to get 'friends' of FB. It took me about three or so days of just
clicking on the maybe you want to be friends with this person button
before I had three hundred 'friends'. Why on earth would you accept a
friend request from someone you don't even know.

My best guess is that they just like to see their friends list grow.
If that is the case, I can kind of (sort of) understand that as I
stare at my ever growing Epic Library of games I know I will never
play.

But that's completely different; obviously having a huge number of
games is IMPORTANT. Never let anyone tell you different ;-)

Now go and add a few more free games to your library. It's the one
true path to happiness and enlightenment. I'm pretty sure it says as
much in the Tipitaka, even.

(Facebook is firewalled at the router, here, not so much because I've
no interest in it - although I don't - as because I just find the
whole company so distasteful.)

I honestly don't know (FB friends that is) it's just I find it a bit
strange. At least with 'collecting' games I can see you've actually got
something as you might play some of them one day. I've got quite a few
freebies from Amazon and although I'm wouldn't describe any of them as
classics it's nice to have a small library of games where I can select
one with very little expectation of it being any good.

This has always been my reasoning.. that when I retire, I will have a
huge selection of games to choose from...

.... but then I will go and just replay an old game anyway.

The last part, now that's a sign of getting old. I go through Sky,
Amazon and Netflix and then what do I do, watch something I've already
watched.

I go through HBO, Netflix, Prime, Amazon, Hulu, D+. Then I go back to my computer
to play more games.

Once in along while I'll go through spirts, find somethings on all those streaming
channels to watch for awhile. I just finished watching DS9, I'm not sure how
much of it I missed while it was on originally so I watched the whole series
but that's been over more than a year it took me to get through. I'm thinking
of doing that with Supernatural, as it seemed like almost every season end
episode got preempted by something or the signal cut out or something
and I missed it. I can't quite bring myself to do it though. I started watching
the first episode and turned it off after about 5 minutes, and went back
to the computer.

I could probably put together a long list of movies I'd rewatch that's been
awhile, but I always seem to have trouble finding them, or getting family
to sit down with me for it and don't like watching most things alone.

The reasons are not as unknown as you would like to think.

Combine that image in your head with a visual of me dancing, and you
may never sleep again.

I mean... I suppose if enough people asked, something could be
arranged... but, nah. I do enough damage to people's mental health
with my long-winded rants already.

(See? This is why Usenet is better. If I actually WERE on OnlyFans, it
would never be half as horrible as what people imagine. By leveraging
people's own creativity against them, I can do far more damage than
were I actually to show it ;-)

On the other hand you might just shock some back into sanity.

That just shows a lack of imagination on your part. :P
