Yeah, to retain the terminal configuration. Soldered in, unfortunately.

RJ45 in this case, but either way, these terminal keyboards use a
different protocol. So you would need a translator if you were to use a
standard PC keyboard with the terminal (or vice verse).

It might not enable normal Model Ms to work on 3151 or 3153

3153 Keyboard Converter Cable (11L2832) began shipping with the 3153 in
April/May 1998. This new part was added to allow attachment of new
keyboards (02K0805, 02K0849, 02K0811, 02K0841, 02K0823 and others) which
have min-Din keyboard connectors. The 3153 keyboard convertercable kit
also has blank keytop stickers to cover the 'Windows' and 'Apps' key
printed on the keyboard.

Folks, this is all conjecture...

Does the terminal keyboard have a 6805-like controller?

Does the 3151 have some sordid KBC like the 8042?

Is the 3151 KBC the Special sauce 09F3632 [or 09F3832]?

I assume the Z0840006PSC stands in for a CPU ?

Yep, 6805, different programming.

I don't think there's a dedicated KBC IC. The RJ45 traces seems to be
going somewhere towards the main ASIC/GA.

The higher-level stuff will be handled by the CPU.

Looks more like a ROM to me... (probably contains the base firmware).

Yep, a variant of the legendary Z80.
