I never discard nuts and bolts. Having built dozens of desktops,
I accumulated a large collection of them.

Today I needed to replace the screws holding the side panels of
a new midi-case with knurled replacements. I knew I had them.
I scratched atround in my loft for about an hour this morning
without success.

Where's that Potter kid with his wand?

Baffling.

My daughter thinks I horde too much. "If you haven't used it in a year and it's less than $10, toss it!" is the
comment. But I think I would append, "And it's not hard to find". I've tossed things out after 3 years and then need
it, what seems to be, a week later.

You can't eat screws, consider hording seeds. But prepare yourself to
have unusual dreams generated from the living seeds.

It's interesting, in a quick check, we seem to be back to knurled
knobs again. Even though someone invented the door latch so those
damn screws would not be needed.

This appears to be the closest thing to convenience, a hinged door,
but if your door is hinged, you should also be able to remove it,
in cases where space around the PC is constrained.

It worked!
Once I published here, the obvious occurred to me.
The only place I hadn't searched was a box of cables.
The screws etc were underneath.
Sadly I needed 4 knurled bolts. Only had three.
Oh well.
