If its VB6 there is a good chance it wrote nothing to the registry. Just
delete its program files and any shortcuts (eg Desktop) it might have
created. If the program files include something ending .ini or .config
that tends to confirm it ignored the registry.

Thankyou for your reply
I did as you suggested and vb6 has now gone.
I do still have a problem, however, in that I am trying to reinstall vb6 and when
I run setup.exe I get the message
The Visual Studio 6.0 Enterprise Edition Installation has been run on this
computer before and I am presented with only Add/Remove options
Workstation Tools and Components
Server Applications and Tools (Add Only)
Other Microsoft Tools
MSDN

Can you advise me how to get round this ?
TIA

These days, I don't get to say this very often...

Google is your friend

Kooky, eh ? You would not think it was possible, for an
evil corporation to have friends.

So here is someone who has been down this road, and has

"I will say you need to follow these directions precisely and if for
any reason you exit the install or it fails, you must delete all the
folders and registry entries it says."

So it does have a footprint.

And the stupid package even has an MSJAVA installer. Why
didn't they reissue the media with that removed ??? Microsoft
had to reissue WinXP media, to get rid of that (part of
some court settlement).

Thankyou for your reply
I had searched (using DuckDuckGo, not Google) Nothing seemed to apply in my case.
I then followed your instructions re the registry etc. Most of the folders/registry entries
did not exist. I removed those that did and tried again. Still received the same message
and could not install. Tried Microsoft Installer trouble shooter which did not find any
entry for VB6 or Visual Studio.

Ignore my previous response - I thought you meant a program written in
VB6. This is the most useful set of instructions I found a few years ago
for what you want to do:
https://whatsoftware.com/install-visual-basic-6-vb6-in-windows-7-without-microsoft-virtual-machine-for-java/

However, I decided that it was easier to install VB6 on Win XP running
in a VirtualBox VM. I keep all my programs on the host machine and do
much of my program writing there with a text editor. The WinXP IDE is
used mainly to create the forms, compile programs and debug.

FWIW I decided this year that after 25 years since VB6 was last updated
it was perhaps time to move on and have began to use VB.NET. Its more
complicated but if you are new to VB6 I suggest going that route instead.
