5.4 is (as I recall) the default LM20 kernel... so if you have that
installed, you'll get notified of the update.

Question: In my Update Manager I can see and can install 5.15.0.-89, but
I am prompted in the UMgr to update to 5.4.0-167.

What do you think would happen if I updated to a kernel that LM21 is using?

I am running this kernel with Linux Mint 20.3. Seems to be OK.

As a Level 39 Wizard, I'm surprised you're not building your own kernels.

You should build a kernel at least once. A rite of passage.

This is the lowest level of the kernel skill ladder.

https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Genkernel

To do a few kernel experiments, you should have around 35GB of storage available.
You won't need all of it, but you need room to work.

Why do this ? If someone asks "have you ever built a kernel?". You can answer "Yes" :-)

You can build kernels that only have the gubbins for your particular PC.
And as well, you can also select a "processor type" for optimization.
For example, if you had a Core2 processor, you could have a kernel which
runs fastest on a Core2. Rather than the generic kernel that you are getting today.

Your tree should provide a way to give you the kernel source. An apt command.

Then, if someone sees your Inxi output, and it has a vanity kernel string in it,
they'll know you're a Level 39 wizard.

Now that is something Windows can't match :-)

Paul
