Since some time I use the Kalendar (ubuntu 18.4), which I find quite
useful. In "ubuntu software" you find it listed with 312.8 MB, which
seems rather much for such an application. Well, I thought, this is
because of the snaps.

Now I have a second PC with Mint 20.3. I looked for a calendar
and found "Calendar (for gnome)", 1.1 GB to download, 3.6 GB disk
space required.

How come that two nearly similar Programs differ so much in volume?

Regards,
H.

More features? Interface with google calendar, or Microsoft's hotmail/outlook calendar?
gnome-calendar is installed in mint21.2 and seems to be linked to the calendar when you click on time in the panel, then
click on an event if you have events that is. I have mine going to google calendar.

It is dependencies.

If an item says "Calendar (for gnome)", then if your DE at the
moment is Gnome, the amount of software to download is KBytes.
Most of the necessary support software, is already on the disk drive.

If on the other hand, the DE is something which is not Gnome,
then the dependency tree analysis attempts to pull in the
entire Gnome DE. Just so the calendar library dependencies
are satisfied.
