When I were a lad we lived in a garbage tip. The older children had to
go out each day to hunt rats and collect firewood. The younger ones
searched for aluminium foil. My mother kept a fire going. She would wrap
the dead rats in aluminium foil and cook them on the fire.

It was a monotonous diet. Sometimes I would come up hoping for something
different, and ask what was for dinner. But the answer was always the same.

Rats! Foiled again!

My siblings and I once pinched the kitchen foil to use as thermal
insulation blankets on our model of the Lunar Excursion Module.

When my dad got home, he asked hopefully what was for dinner.
"Rats? Foiled again?" And this even though we'd had it the night
before. He did enjoy a good foiled rat, did my dad.

"Yes," answered my mum frustratedly, "and I'd have made it too if
it hadn't been for those meddling kids."
