I regularly receive scripts in which the text relating to different
characters appear in different colours.

Mine appear in green but they are too light. I want them in dark green.

Is there a way of globally changing the colour?

I don't care if it is in Libreoffice Writer, Microsoft Word or anything
else.

TIA

I *think* the default LM/Cinnamon application for shell scripts -- text
files with names ending with a ".sh" or ".bash" extension -- is 'Text
Editor'. And the default Text Editor theme on my system is "Tango"
which indeed is hard on the eyes. I generally switch the theme to
"Oblivion" or "Solarized Dark"; 'Edit >> Preferences >> Theme' gets you
to the built-in theme options.

Similarly if you are opening the script in Gnome Terminal you can tweak
the default profile by right-clicking and selecting 'Preferences' then
selecting the 'Colors' tab. Lots of combinations are possible in Gnome
Terminal and if you otherwise like the defaults maybe explore creating a
new profile for use with shell scripts.

Not those kind of scripts, more like theatre oplay scripts.
Anyway I found a way of doing it in MSWord.
I am using version 2003.
