I thought I'd mention this since Steam has a thread, GOG is more
deserving

Games I'd recommend if you don't have/haven't played (I'll skip the
'discounts' and just put the current price)

$1.49 Dungeon Keeper Gold - or - Dungeon Keeper 2
$1.49 Sid Meyer's Alpha Centari Planetary Pack
$1.49 Populous the Beginning
$1.49 Nox (Hexen clone, pretty good)
$1.49 Wing Commander 3 - or - Privateer
$1.49 Crusader: No Remorse
$2.49 Gothic
$3.49 Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic / Jedi Knight Jedi Academy
$3.99 Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition
$4.99 Rebel Galaxy Outlaw
$6.99 Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
$7.99 Fallout New Vegas Ultimate Edition
$7.99 Fallout 3 GotYE
$9.99 Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines
$11.99 Warcraft I & II bundle (maybe a little high for that?)
$29.99 The Outer Worlds: Non-Mandatory Corporate Sponsored Bundle

Games I noticed here that I'm interested in mostly also on Steam Sale:

$2.99 Worms Armageddon
$5.99 each: Balder's Gate / Balder's Gate II Enhanced Editions
$7.49 Hollow Knight
$13.19 Wasteland 3
$24.99 Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition
$29.99 Cyberpunk 2077
$29.99 No Man's Sky

I love the GOG sales, but don't get much out of them because - to
nobody's surprise - I already own most of the games. I click on the
"80s" or "90s" game collection pages, and have to dig pretty deeply
before I see a game that's not already in my library. It's very sad
;-)

Case(s) in point:

Have half of it (Warcraft 1), partly because - by the time Warcraft II
came to GOG- ActiBlizz was on my shitlist (Warcraft 1 snuck through
before that), and also because Warcraft 2 is the Battlenet edition (as
opposed to the original DOS version).

>$29.99 The Outer Worlds: Non-Mandatory Corporate Sponsored Bundle
Don't have it, but it's not really a game that intrigues me enough to
pay $30USD for it.

Don't have it, partly becaue of price and partly because I don't think
my machine is up to rendering it in its full glory.

Have it.

>$29.99 No Man's Sky
If No Man's Sky ever goes on sale (I mean, a real sale; I almost never
see it at anything BUT the $29.99 "sale" price, and consider that its
default), then maybe I'll consider ;-)

<sigh> My rampant consumerism prevents me from enjoying even more
rampant consumerism. Life is so unfair ;-)

I was kinda interested in this as I enjoyed the original but the problem
is the graphics are just too bad for me. Something like BG you can get
away with it as the graphics, IMHO, for isometric games don't date
anywhere as near as much.

> $9.99 Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines

It's definitely a good game once you apply all the mods to iron out some
of the more interesting problems but that price for a game from 2004
seems a bit cheeky.

> $29.99 The Outer Worlds: Non-Mandatory Corporate Sponsored Bundle

I got the base game when it was first released on Steam for £25 and I
rather enjoyed it for what it was - and enjoyable somewhat satirical
take on corporations. A couple of things I would say, it's relatively
short (25+ hours depending on what you do) and it's not FO:NV even if it
appears similar. The expansions I do have but the first one was a bit of
a mixed bag as I found lots of problems trying to navigate myself around
the maps. Basically you'd look at were you wanted to go on the map and
then end-up finding the route you were taking was blocked by the terrain
or something similar.

> Games I noticed here that I'm interested in mostly also on Steam Sale:

> $5.99 each: Balder's Gate / Balder's Gate II Enhanced Editions

I have both, and PS:T EE, and they are fun to play again even if most of
what's in the EE editions can be achieved through mods.

> $13.19 Wasteland 3

This one still keeps tempting me for some reason as I picked up
Wasteland 2 as a GOG freebie but hardly played it.

---------

I did have a quick skim through the sales but I'm going to take a pass
as I've got more than enough games to keep me going at the moment.

Actually unfortunately GOG nowadays has become second rate to me. The
Steam Deck is the reason and GOGs "half a**" approach to linux support.
(ignore the requests for galaxy on Linux for years)
Their recommendation, if you want to play their games on the Deck,
install Windows... There is a workaround via the Heroic launcher, but
even then this works only for the new games and is a hazzle.

So i get the free games but thats about it, too bad, I left quite some
money on their site in the past, but for me it is, if a game is on Steam
and GOG, Steam automatically gets the money.

Not sure how many sales they are losing this way, they probably wont
notice, but given that Deck Owners ramp up on playable games they
probably are losing a few thousand possible sales per week every week.

I just found this about the Steam Deck. I don't have one so I didn't
read the whole article:

And the games run well from the SD cards? Wow!

I don't travel much anymore (at least for business) but if I did I
would certainly try to buy one.

I remember counting on my HP Pocket PC to keep me sane in the 90's :-)

Yes if you have a fast sd card (I usually get the fast Samsung ones from
Amazon) then the difference in loading times is only a few seconds so
bearable
Thing is, that PC games rely less on disc io than console games, because
they have to take in mind that some people still use hdds.
So it was no surprise for me that that they run well.
DirectIO in future games might be the breaking point however for this,
but even then it is questionable whether an SD card really is a
showstopper, if fast enough.

I forgot the swap to a slightly slower ssd only affects the nvme drive
itself on the device, and that one is easily swappable. So if you are
not satisfied with the IO performance you can open the device and swap
the nvme yourself by opening a few screws.
Tons of people put bigger drives into the entry version of the device.

Interesting. I would like to see one someday in use but that will
never happen.
