I built a new machine with a 1TB ssd and added an existing 2TB hard
drive.

The idea was all my data, text, accounting files and MythTV recordings
would go on the hard drive.

Well, mythtV will not work with them there.

I tried making mythtv's storage folders those on the hard drive.

I have tried creating symlinks to folders on /home/mythtv (onn the ssd)
but neither system works.

I am resigned to restoring my recordings to the ssd which leaves very
litle spare space.

I hate being beaten!

Surely the paths it uses are programmable ?

It's the year 2024, right ?

*******

https://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Setup_Storage_Directories

"The Ubuntu or MythBuntu MythTV package creates empty subdirectories in /var/lib/mythtv
for storage groups. You can mount your filesystem in those directories and then enter
the directory names in setup"

sudo mkdir /var/lib/mythtv/mountpoint

sudo mount /dev/sdb3 /var/lib/mythtv/mountpoint

Something along those lines. Or

sudo mount /dev/sdb3 /var/lib/mythtv/

and the whole structure goes in the right place.

When adding a new physical disk to the MythTV machine a promplt comes up
saying that new storage has been found and it can be included by doing a
<something or other>.py command.

This might be what you want, gets the syntax etc correct. No doubt there are
other ways of doing it. My 2c worth.
