I have a LTS distro (don't like rolling) and installed 4 desktops, one
of which is TDE. I liked the old KDE.
Now everyday, when I get updates, most of them are TDE.
And yet is still a flaky, wonky disappointment. I surmise the small team
at TDE is up late at night finding bugs in every corner.

This is normal if it is a new and active project.
Be happy that they find bugs. This is the first step in getting rid off
them.

To be fair, TDE is hardly a new project. It has been around from the
moment KDE dropped support for KDE 3.5 in order to focus on KDE 4.x,
which took a very long time to become usable. That's why many people
switched to TDE at the time.

A lot also depends on the distro maintainers. Just because upstream
releases updates doesn't mean the distro will implement them right
away. LTS distros in particular — e.g. CentOS, Debian/Devuan, et al —
are commonly very wary of supplying newer versions of packages unless
they contain a critical security update.

I've been with TDE/Trinity since they forked from KDE 3.5.
I have had _no_ "issues" with the desktop -- save for several annoyances
that they solved soon after my posting in their user email list.
All along it's been Ubuntu underneath it all.

I'm always impressed at how they roll out the updates, new versions, and
add features as suggested by the users.

Using "bugshit" for something besides M$ products,
is a *gross* mis-characterization.
Especially in this case.

Well, I'm a Manjaro user — I'm also a moderator at the official Manjaro
forum — and Manjaro is a curated rolling-release distribution. There
have been some glitches every once in a while, but in overall, I'm very
happy with how stable and robust it is.

I don't use Trinity — I'm a Plasma guy — but I have checked it out in
PCLinuxOS. It had a few glitches and, after having used Plasma 4 and
now using Plasma 5, an outdated feel for my taste. But I wouldn't
categorize it as shit. It was definitely usable.

I strongly suspect that the original post was actually deliberately
intended as flame bait. Besides, it's that time of the year again. ;)

Do we need flame bait this summer? Seems to me we are running
close to ignition temperatures in the real world. But to call something
not produced by those people in Redmond is simply boring.

The resistance to Rolling Releases will cause friction.
I used to use Mandriva, Mageia and experimented with various
releases. What a hassle. I went to PCLinuxOS and badk in the early
days of my use I did have minor problems but these days PCLinuxOS
is stable enough for my use. Amiga to 2006, Linux from 2006.

bliss - brought to you by the power and ease of PCLinuxOS
the Perfect Computer Linus Operating System(for me),
and a minor case of hypergraphia.
