I don't understand what that question means. The software manager
manages packages; so does synaptic; so does apt.

*Exactly* what text output do you want to have?

You might want to look at man apt which tells you something about list
and dpkg-query --list

Of course there is also a man dpkg you can look over.

What exactly do you mean by "text version of Software Manager"? Are you
looking for something like aptitude?

I would like to look at the Software Manager in a text format, this way
I can count how many packages there are and also I can keep track of
when they are entered into the repository. As an example, While looking
at the SM there are tabs on the bottom such as Accessories,  Fonts,
Games.. If I click on one of those tabs I can see the packages, but have
no information about when they entered the repo. In a text format I
could sort, count the packages. It amazes me that the Science and
Education tab offers so many incredible packages, it makes me wish I was
21 again and starting out in life.
