Hello,
I need a handbook or something similar for Mixmaster. The .deb is
installed but now I do not know how to use (update stats, send
email/postings to newsgroups).

Does it not have a man page? ($ man mixmaster)

I'm still looking for some information where and how I've to configure
mixmaster to update stats etc.

I tried some things but the result is:

d)ummy message
Error: Encryption failed!

mixmaster_3.0.0-7_i386.deb installed mixmaster without problems on my
very, very old notebook.

Hi,

You are refering to the client, I assume. I had Mixmaster
on OSX IIRC put in /usr/local/bin/ and the Mix directory
in my home folder with all the required files. Back then
I compiled Elvis's original source code which puts things
in other places like a .deb package. This required then
also to set the MIXPATH to my home folder, in order
that the binary had found the files. Same for Windows,
I just recently tried out.

I never used the ncurses GUI and used command line
arguments for updating stats or sending messages.

So, in your case I would first edit the mix.cfg file with proper
values, because sec3 is no longer running a pinger service
and then try to see where the .deb package installed your
files, because IIRC such a .deb package uses other location,
instead the original ones Mixmaster uses.

And you will need also all-pingers.txt, which includes all
the Mixmaster pinger services.

Once you have this file I would try first '$ mixmaster --update-stats'
and see if Mixmaster fetches the stats and pub keys.

Once done try to compose a message with the ncurses GUI,
you already used and see if you can send a message.

Hopefully inwtx or Elvis jumps in to give you better help.

Well, I just installed Mixmaster .deb package from Elvis under Debian 10
and as exspected this is completely different than the original Mixmaster
source code installation ....

So, You have to look in /var/mixmaster/ to find all the files and you
need allpingers.txt in that directory, to select a stats source in the
ncurses menu. Once done you can then fetch the pub keys and stats.

Because this .deb package is meant for a Mixmaster Remailer you
will have to edit it for a client (or create a new one), in case you do
not want to set-up a Remailer.

Isn't that the version from Debian's repo?

I suggest using my 3.1 deb which has multiple improvements
including larger RSA keys.

It's possible you've tried to use a 4k key in a
1k mixmaster version.

Thanks Elvis. I would need a i386.deb version.

Ifound in the Internet that my problem could be with the
update.conf. The guy had the same problem and changed
something in that file, but he didn't explain what.

I'm using now QSL with WINE since I didn't manage
to get mixmaster to work.
