I just rewatched the first episode of James Burke's "Connections" (1978).
It opens with him standing at night on the plaza of the World Trade Center,
and then takes an elevator to top. The building is never identified.

It felt pretty eerie seeing that location again.

[BTW: There's a brand new 'Connections' series with JB on the
CuriosityStream streaming service. For an 86 year old, he seems
to be doing very well. Sadly, the new series clearly has a fraction of
budget of the original.]

By 'a thing' do you mean 'a scandal' or 'a hotel'?

There is a Donald E Westlake Dortmunder novel (I think the one made
into a film with Eddie Murphy playing Dortmunder) where part of the
plot involves "a small break-in at the Watergate" and Dortmunder is
completely perplexed at why everyone thinks that's so funny. (If so,
the perplexity didn't make it into the film, although the Watergate
did).
