Well, looks like I might be in the market for a new monitor sooner,
rather than later, as none of my current ones have HDMI inputs and
it seems that an M1 mini is a bit fussy on startup to prefer HDMI.

Suggestions?

If your existing monitors have DVI inputs and otherwise work fine, you can
get an HDMI to DVI cable for $10 or less. I am doing this for my laptops
and older monitors. It works fine.

Hmm, that's a cheap short term option, as I have a loaner monitor that's DVI
(will have to check another).

The main challenge has been to find HDMI to Displayport (and then to mDP).

Wouldn’t hurt to got to a UPS/4K display anyway...

What I’ve been finding so far:

$300. Acer Nitro 28" Class UHD IPS Gaming Monitor …Model VG280K

$360. Samsung 27" 16:9 4K/UHD IPS … model LS27A800UJNXGO
$500. Samsung - LED monitor - 4K - 27" - HDR model: S27A804UJN

$300. LG - 27" UHD IPS Monitor with FreeSync Model 27UK500-B
$500. LG - 27” 4K UHD IPS LED Monitor Model LG 27BP85U-W

$555 HP Z27k G3 - LED monitor - 4K - 27”. Model: 1B9T0AA#ABA

Haven’t hit up any review sites yet, nor sorted out a lot of other specs…
Looks like some are LED based, others aren’t.

What's Mike Easter's poison for the flooding nonsense? SC? That is the only
database he knows, and it is a joke. He must be abusing it to write these
goofy "spam" idiotic threads. Best hypothesis, Mike Easter took Kelly Phillips's
code that he stole and took credit for... he's feeding it data from the
program, grabbing offensive paragraphs, then scrambling those using a Markv
model and then he actively posts them because his mental health issues enables
him to do that almost 24/7.

Mike Easter calls it "trolling" him, even though he continues to elicit
that precise retort.

And given how often it seems that Mike Easter's .sig file is some distortion
of a narrative Kelly Phillips shared which had been a beating on Mike Easter
for something he did which was ill-considered/untrue/etc... its clearly
a daily gesture of Mike Easter's ever-present embarrassment for having been
so often crushed: Mike Easter is self-evidently incapable of being shown
a mirror.

What connections does your current monitor have, H?

And remember that DVI actually comes in a variety of flavours:

<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Visual_Interface#Connector>

As well as MiniDVI:

<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mini-DVI>

And Micro-DVI

<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Micro-DVI>

But I think those two weren't found on any monitor ever.

:-)

Right now, the personal fleet just has two interfaces available,
namely mDP, and VGA.

The loaners from work can be used for testing/etc; the interfaces
available there are: mDP, DP, & DVI--D dual link, so the only thing
that's 'new' is the DVI-D (so a HDMI to DVI-D able would work)

There's also HDMI available on the TVs. Been using them for some
of the initial setup & troubleshooting ... an interesting element there
is that one of them is small/old and IIRC limited to 720p, so the image
from the computer looks really bad (blocky text, etc).

> And remember that DVI actually comes in a variety of flavours:
>

That had slipped my mind, so I had to go look it up ... DVI-D.

Similarly, I'm aware that there's different revisions to DP and HDMI
that I should go figure out what is/isn't important...looks like 4K/UHD
will require at least HDMI 2.0 (w/accompanying 'Category 2' cables)
for 60Hz, else 2.1 / Category 3 for higher refresh rates.

Carroll is far too unintelligent to write a quality script. The only scripting
he's ever shown he can do is automating mouse clicks. Dustin Cook: functionally
illiterate fraud. Carroll is STILL fixated on exclusively himself, as
I suggested, when it comes to the issue of puppetry. And he completely
sidesteps the evidence that his "friend" has not only confessed to engaging
in that against Snit (a real advocate) but he has said he deems it to
be no real deal... a non-issue. No no. He never agreed to stop accusing
good people of being like him. He lied about his trolling just as you
would expect.

There's a cable for that...

Get a $9 HDMI to Mini DisplayPort adapter:

<https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Mini-DisplayPort-HDMI-Cable/dp/B0134V3KIA/>

3ft, 6ft, 10ft.

:-)

I don't know what the AmazonBasics cable complies with, but it's plain
that such things are available.

You can say I am a monkey wrench for all I care. There's a few choices
to choose from in so far as top bottom. We're all sorry Pothead's a paranoid,
narcissistic, delusional liar but that's not gonna change anything <shrug>.

Pothead is trying again to smear Trend Micro.

It's trivial to cherrypick by focusing on hardly any exceptions unrepresentative
from what is common. What a better tactic from an honest advocates standpoint
are the regular usages. The most obvious answer: Alan B's consumed drugs
since then, and 'disremembered'. Alan B is the effect of the fact that
Liberals have been hired to be in charge of educating kids. It is not
a coincidence that he is a foolish socialist. Alan B must know that Snit
can go get Access, right, tweaker? And, of course, anyone can can get
software to block his crap, which renders _his_ flooding useless, just
like Alan B ;)

Alan B never takes responsibility for his own words. Posts that are
easily quoted and pointed out.

I'm pretty happy with this one I originally bought for the MacBook:

https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-27-4k-uhd-monitor-s2721q/apd/210-axlf/monitors-monitor-accessories#techspecs_section

$375 and has 2 x HDMI and DisplayPort plus speakers. It is LCD tech.

Interesting that my new Macbook Pro 16in has had no hardware or software
problems at all. Seems to "just work".

That was the intent until I was so enamored by the excellent MacBook HD display that I bought a Dell 9510 with the optional, and also excellent, OLED UHD display to go with the new monitor. It's just as good as the MacBook/Dell monitor combination. Better in some respects. At this point in life money is fading as a motive for buying stuff.

I spent the better part of 4 days looking extensively at HP, LG, Lenovo, ASUS and Dell options. I looked at Vendor and YouTube reviews, customization options, port configuration, initial cost and warranty options. I ordered the Dell on Nov 19 and it was delivered on Dec 1. With it I bought the 4-year in-home warranty and kept the monitor. The monitor was ordered on November 13 and still well within the Dell 30-day no-questions-asked return window when the 9510 arrived.

Here is a key review I watched before making the final purchase decision:

Why do you seemingly have issues with someone changing their mind when confronted with new information?

So did mine for 15 days. Then it bricked for no apparent reason. I'm quite sure that is a very rare issue. Otherwise we would be hearing about QA/QC issues with the new M1 MacBooks.

And you failed to realize that the external display would work with a PC
just the way it did with a Mac.

Due in part to another lesson or two learned. First, I've personally had some not-so-great results when major computer repairs were needed. Second, I was under the impression that the M1 Mac would run Windows 11. It would only run a crippled partially-functional development version. With no guaranteed path forward from that state. Together, the combination resulted in the return. Had the Mac not bricked I would be typing this reply on it anyway and hoping for a fully functional Windows 11.
