Any browser I try from WindowsXP errors out with "unexpected error".
In Win7 Firefox handles it without a problem. I'm wondering if it's
something that's only in my machine or if all XP browsers do it. Does
anyone have any idea what's going on?

Which browser did you use?
I don't know any up to date browser for Windows XP and many webpages
use features that are only available in up to date browsers and not in
ancient versions.

That message, carefully centered in the middle of a blank
page, is being generated by the copious javascript on that page.

There's no hex dump or anything else, to suggest is is an "error".

It's merely a roadblock. An arbitrary roadblock thrown up by scumbags.

Most of the page renders. I hit reload repeatedly, then hammered the
PageDown key, and most of the page seems to be rendering, before
a split second later the "white sheet" is pulled over the render
as a joke.

You can try changing the UserAgent string, but I think the code of
your opponent (Google) is better quality than that. It is probably
using a modern feature check, to ascertain it's on WinXP.

Yes, no problems whatsoever with Serpent v52.9.0 (2021-10-01) (32-bit).
You can download it at https://rtfreesoft.blogspot.com/

I was 75% sure it was the code. Now I know for sure. Thanks. I thought
maybe I'd got something screwed up in my machine.

You know it's funny, I never run into this shit when I shop on the
Amazon site? You'd think their IT guys would be a-hankering to show me
how obsolete and broken XP is too. But they never do.
