While I haven't seen it reported on that small of a scale, I can
believe it! And yes, clocks on the two ends of the basketball court
would have to agree on the time for half the year and be an hour
different for the other half.

[Hal Heydt]
I would expect so.

I think the root of my tendency to show a passport card, rather
than automatically pulling out my drivers license is rooted in
ancedotes from when I was doing a lot of cycling. If a cop stops
someone on a bicycle and they show a drivers license as ID, the
DMV may apply points aginst the license. Since one isn't
required to have a drivers license to ride a bike, it's sometimes
better to have some *other* form of ID...on that doesn't link
back to the DMV.

Then there was when I got my first COVID shot. They asked for
ID. I asked how good an ID they wanted, and was told, the best
one you've got. So I pulled out my passport card. The person
filling out the paperwork agreed that that was probably the best
ID there was.

Almost certainly not! I assure you Indiana local politics has many stranger
things. They believe in local control. Eg, northern Indiana where my
grandparents lived is the home of some of the largest Amish and
Mennonite communities anywhere. So we had busy 4-lane state highways
where the drivers were very careful of all the horse and buggies (and
many other accomodations)

https://www.waymarking.com/waymarks/wm3JNV_College_Corner_School_Ohio_Indiana_border
Originally called Union School, a K-12 school, College Corner
School now houses K-5. Older students now attend middle school and
high school in nearby Liberty, Indiana. (Union County High School)
Students attending here cross the Ohio/Indiana border several times a
day just by traveling to different classes. The gym is built so that
one basketball goal is in Ohio and the opposing team's basket is in
Indiana.

Since Ohio observed DST and eastern Indiana did not, the clocks would
disagree during DST and agree the other 6 months.

Yes. I'm not sure I was clear enough in the setup I described - it actually
did unify (officially) the state for half the year. The fact that some
clocks were on Central Daylight Time and some were on Eastern Standard
Time, didn't matter (pre-computer); the time agreed.

That reminds me of a long time ago when we got (through early cable--someone else's tall antenna) a TV station from a city in Indiana. When we in Ohio sprang forward, and East Indiana didn't we got a second chance to watch one network's shows an hour later. However, this conflicts with a memory that when a time was given for network shows, the corresponding Central Time an hour earlier was appended, as immortalized in the variety show "Wednesday at Eight (Seven Central)". Nowadays I know at least deeper in the Central, St Louis, for example, shows are broadcast simultaneously with the East. Did Central Time used to get its own feed of network programing? Or was this a special tape delay by the station, so as not to have to explain why summer reruns were an hour earlier? ("The government would like you to get up earlier, so go to bed earlier..."?)

I've seen that in certain parts of southern Ontario as well.

So, instead of describing a player as "...going from coast to coast...."
he could "....go from state to state!"
