δοῦλος ???
That's a slave. And yet the King James translation is "servant"; while
you French have "serviteur".
John says he's a δοῦλος of God.

I think that in the first c. AD a slave was a slave, not a διάκονος. A
δοῦλος was the property of his/her owner. And, as such, not free to look
elsewhere.

I remember having read that under ancient Roman law, a freed slave who
chose to remain in the service of his master undertook to remain so
until the end of his life.

rate.
