Seems like not moving would be most desirable. But that's not an option. We're not in back game territory with an even pip count. Moving forward looks viable, but messy without the midpoint to work with. To move forward it would be really desirable to make the golden point, so moving that blot to the outfield is not great. But moving from the anchors is worse. Playing a 6 in the infield? 8/2 is asking for a back game. 7/1 kills a checker but would be most consistent with a blitzing game, which is what the infield is set up for right now. For me it's between 20/14 and 7/1 which is not exactly sticking you neck out, Bob, since there are only 4 items on the menu. OK, 20/14.
Bob

X to play 64

If you're playing this with a physical board, or with the pip count
turned off, it's easy to fall into the trap of thinking that X is
behind in the pip count because he has so many checkers back. Putting
a checker out of play with 7/1 goes against the grain, but it's XG's
preferred play by far. It does have the obvious advantage of dodging
O's triple direct shot.

For the variant, I made a rather large change in the position, by
swinging one of X's 6pt spares all the way around the board.
