MC Skibadee has died at the age of 54, his family have announced via social media. The jungle MC and drum and bass pioneer, whose real name is Alfonso Bondzie, burst onto the music scene in 1993. His eldest child took to MC Skibadee's Facebook page on Sunday to announce the news.

Well, I enjoying playing both bass and the drums, but:

One, haven't heard any of the late Skibadee's* body of recorded work; and
Two, have zero idea what the heck a "jungle MC" might be.

Thanks to anyone in advance herein who might musically (?) enlighten me re the more important, second point.

* Just about all hip-hopster stage names are silly--and more important, foolishly unmemorable, given that its showbiz!--but this one sounds and seems especially stupid.

According to one report Skibadee changed the nature of what it meant to be an MC __or rapper__ in the UK, laying the foundations for __grime__, __drill__ and everything else that followed. There is not a British grime or rap artist today that doesn’t owe him a creative debt. The term MC is essentially a word for a rapper but the term is not limited to hip hop. Drum and Bass, Garage, Happy Hardcore, Ragga and old school rave all feature MCs, however with these genres, the MC generally MCs live while a DJ mixes the tunes, whereas hip hop MCs mainly do so on record I'm MCing at a house party tonight, you coming?

Now, Calvin Broadus certainly crafted a memorable nom de rap in Snoop Doggy Dogg; that superfluous G even makes it memorable in print!

Hey--I just noticed something: This latest dead-before-his-time rapper already HAD a memorable name BEFORE he started expecting people to think how cool he was to have a stage name such as Skibadee.

That is, Alfonso Bondzie is the sort of name that, were I to happen upon it in the credits of some film or sitcom, I WOULD actually take note of and maybe even retain it amid all of the Johathan Millers, Megan Tappers and Michael Gabels, et al. whose names generally go in one eye and out the other.

But it seems the late Bondzie wasn't even showbiz-smart enough to take advantage of that good fortune, and instead just concocted for his rap branding yet ANOTHER seemingly-meaningless collection of syllables!
