No, idiot, you are in gaol to ensure you appear in court. Other
ways to ensure you come to court include bail or the judge trusts
you. Being held pending trial does not imply guilt. After
conviction you can be put in prison.

Since you are presumed innocent pending trial, your confinement
can not be punitive or mistreatment. Various jurisdictions have
lost suits and paid out.

None of the family separations resulted in convictions. They were
explicitly nonjudicial punishment intended to illegally terrorise
people. Of course the US government has to settle. Let me guess:
you were also outraged at payments to issei, who were not
citizens, to compensate for loss of freedom and property.

people who were treated illegally. It won't apply to anyone else.

It does apply to all police and sheriffs. They have lost false
imprisonment claims, brutality, other torts. That's why peace
officers are careful in how they interact with the public.
Everytime they arrest or detained they are at hazard when they
violate civil rights laws.

There has been a concerted effort - both left and right -
to corrupt the judicial system and install lackey judges
who will rule according to ideology rather than The Law
or any hint of common sense. In short, the Judicial
branch disappears for all intents and purposes. It
becomes naught but a tethered satellite of the legislature.
