A prince of the royal dynasty of the Sultanate of Perak in Malaysia,
Raja Izuddin Chulan,born February 14th 1951,died March 28th 2022,
according to Malaysian newspaper The Star (reporting the cause as
heart disease) and others.

The succession system in Perak is nominative and complex.
Somewhat like the LDS Church system,the Sultan gets to nominate
princes to the positions in order of succession when deaths cause
vacancies and lower-ranked princes move up creating vacancies to
fill at the bottom.
However,unlike the LDS Apostles' secure life tenure there is a
measure of "gaming the system" as princes can be removed for
things like bankruptcy and sometimes princes are named to
positions held open rather than filled by seniority.

Nominally,the throne is supposed to rotate between the senior
branch of the dynasty and two sub-branches of the junior branch.
However,the current Sultan managed to directly succeed his father
thanks to those in line between them having died and been chosen
at fairly high ages,and has in turn named his own son (born 2008)
to the position behind the current crown prince (Raja Muda)
Ja'afar,who is 80,and the second in line who is 67 (the
Sultan is 65).

Octogenarian Ja'afar is from the senior branch,the next in
line from the other line of the junior branch,the fourth (born 1994)
and fifth(born 1941) in line are from the Sultan's sub-branch,and the now
deceased Izuddin Chulan was the other representative of the
senior branch,in the lowest position (Raja Kechil Bongsu,
Bongsu meaning "youngest") in the line.

Since the British deposed Izuddin Chulan's great-grandfather in 1877
there has been only one senior-branch Sultan,1938-48 (the current
crown prince's grandfather,nephew of the deposed Sultan).
Now the Sultan gets to name another Raja Kechil Bongsu,whether
from the senior branch or not,and either way unlikely to survive
the Sultan's teenage son (the crown prince's son is in his 40s).
