12 in the zone and 15 pips behind make me think running off the anchor
is the wrong idea. I'd play two down from the midpoint before that.
Fewer shots, keep the anchor to avoid gammons, and maintain contact
since behind in the race.

Is D better than burying one on the ace? Seems to be. If not hit, X is
in decent shape with a nice board and an anchor.
