AS the World Turns star Kathryn Hays has died at the age of 87.

The soap opera actress passed away on March 25 in Fairfield, Connecticut.

The cause of death has not yet been revealed.

Kathryn was best known for her role as Kim on CBS’ As the World Turns, which she played for 38 years.

Her former ATWT co-star Don Hastings said in a statement, according to TVLine: “Our relationship as Bob and Kim was as close as Kathryn and my relationship, except we were not married.

“We were more like brother and sister and we were great friends.

“Our biggest squabble was that she always wanted to rehearse and I wanted to take a nap.

“This is a huge loss to all who knew her.”

Along with her time on the soap, Kathryn worked on a slew of other popular shows, including Star Trek, The Eleventh Hour, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., and Law & Order.

It has a 6.5 rating at the IMDb, but that's not exactly mediocre. Also, I have to agree with the first few user reviews that popped up (they liked it, and the reviews are listed according to "helpfulness").

Perhaps recent viewers appreciate The Empath more than we originals
did. At the time, we generally hated it.

I don't remember her on Star Trek. The Man from U.N.C.L.E. yes.

At any rate, aside from her captivating silent performance, one thing I definitely liked was her costume.

(Most of the feminine costumes on the original ST don't date well, but another one I liked was Diana Muldaur's in "Is There in Truth No Beauty?" Of course, there's more to that dress than in just how it looks!)

It was the 1960s. Actresses were sexy as hell, and they did that by
showing off their legs and their curves and hourglass figures. Even if
the actress was not as curvy, the illusion was created. Some costumes
created sexiness not by exposing more skin but by making it appear that
the costumes were about to fall off.

I agree with you about Miss Muldaur's costume in that episode, which
made her look quite beautiful indeed.

Just to clarify - I meant that even most of the long dresses that didn't look precarious to wear don't date well. (Mainly because of the designs or color clashes.)

Ok.

Sometimes colors were chosen to look ok on color televisions of the
time, which didn't always lock the receive to the signal and color
drifted and there could be signal interference.

But a lot of choices sure looked like what women wore at the time!

The dresses had to look good in b&w. In late 1966 only 4% of the
nation's TV households had color TV. (We got ours that October. The
first thing we watched was Walter Cronkite, then something else, then
The Time Tunnel. We thought the colorful shimmering stuff Tony and
Doug were sailing through was awesome.)

I also remember being surprised that Captain Kirk's shirt was gold.
For some reason I'd thought it was green.

Also, the IMDb says she was born in July of 1933, so she'd have been 88.

I didn’t like it much, but it may have been the direction, so I’m ready to love her as part of the most important show in the history of TV. I’ll want to see her other work some day.
