I was there in 1977. The garlic ice cream was surprisingly terrific.
I've never seen it again.

I liked Gilroy. I'm sorry the festival's done.

This is indeed a cryin' shame.

Drove by and even through Gilroy many times during the 15 years I lived in Southern and then Northern California, but unfortunately never during its celebrated annual festival. But I think of that little burg pretty much every time I crush a few cloves on my cutting board during dinner prep.

I frequently add garlic to frozen pizzas...but I always slice
the cloves.What does crushing do?

Garlic is primarily crushed to release its oils, which in turn infuses subtly different flavors to the dish than if you didn't crush.

The different garlic flavors that are contained in cells are alliin and alliinase, which when crushed combined to form allicin, which is the 'strong'
