From the BBC: The guy who allegedly stabbed Jackson in the chest,
security guard Laurie John-Phillip of Derby Road, Ponders End, Enfield,
appeared at the Old Bailey and is set to re-appear on 24 August.

A second man, aged 33, has also been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Actually, my own theory is that the murderous folks behind this The-Hits-[on rapsters]-Just-Keep-On-Comin'! trend is some shadowy group of melodic pop music fans who are violently taking to the streets to counter the tune-bereft "grooves" so cacophonically generated by all these now-late purported musicians.

Lamar Jackson is indeed to be praised bfor having been one of the few rap folk to work under his (presumably) real name...as opposed to all the goofball, usually incomprehensible handles most of them semi-literately adopt.

I mean, never forget that--as reported by Rolling Stone--the almost-comically-misfortune-prone Post Malone came up with his own silly nom de rap by using a "rap-name generator" app on his not-so-smart phone! (But the RS reporter did not explain how Malone came to festoon his visage with all those stupid facial-tattoos.)

Meanwhile, I just hope my favorite dark-horse candidate for The White House in 2024--that would be onetime classical pianist William Drayton*--has hired on a serious cadre of bodyguards, because I see no signs that the U.S. Secret Service is willing to extend him the protection he clearly needs.

I neglected to re-read the initial posting after first seeing it earlier today, and thus had forgotten that Jackson did indeed use a stage-name.

And a darned good one too! I mean, Hypo is succinct, and actually evokes some interesting imagery.

But my point remains: while I have ZERO problem with stage-names per se--the guy with the funny nose, the funnier hair and the funniest voice famously employs one, after all, as did I myself professionally on the radio for decades--but rather with how DIMWITTEDLY most hip-hop pseudonyms are selected.

Not to mention INCONSIDERATE of their audiences; that is, why demand your would-be fans master some inside-joke collection of words and/or numerals? It's amazing enough that anyone is willing to endure your melody-absent ranting rhymes, so at least ease their mental commitment by keeping it simple (like "Lizzy", who is, simply, memorable for more than her manageable name)..

Now, some are indeed clever--Eninem from M&M and in turn from Marshall Mathers, for example--or at least memorable (who can forget Flavor Flav, the fellow OR the name?). But most of them are mostly forgettable.

But indisputably memorable is Pop Smoke, who sadly ended up both popped and smoked.
