The controversial animal hunter Riann Naude was killed in South Africa
while driving in his car in Limpopo province.

The news went viral on Facebook as Naude was known to mistreat and kill
hundreds of wild animals.

According to local media, the murder occurred in early June, when Naude
was traveling in his car.

During the journey, he had to stop on the side of the road, since his
car had some faults.

At that point, the killers shot him in the head and fled, according to
the Heritage Protection Group (HPG).

"According to witnesses, someone in a Bakkie pulled up next to the man
and shot him in cold blood at close range. After (…), the two suspects
went out and presumably stole a gun", said Heritage Protection Group
(HPG), a non-profit organization.

Meanwhile, environmentalist Julio César Martínez shared a photograph of
Riaan Naude. In the image, the subject is seen taking the head of a lion.

"The hunter, who killed dozens of wild animals, Riaan Naude was killed
in his car while going hunting. He was found shot in the head in
Limpopo, South Africa", he wrote on his Twitter account.

Lieutenant Colonel Mamphaswa Seabi, a spokesman for the South African
police, said a herder heard a gunshot and saw a white van speeding away
from the scene of the crime. A cartridge was also found at the crime scene.

"Police found two hunting rifles, ammunition, clothing, water, whiskey
and pajamas in the deceased’s truck. It looks like he was going
hunting." he added.

According to the description on his Facebook account, Riaan Naude was a
well-known game hunter based in Phalaborwa, South Africa. He was part of
the Pro Hunt Africa group, a professional hunting team.

On social networks, the news of his murder quickly went viral. In that
sense, some organizations highlighted that "Riaan was dedicated to
raising and selling giraffes to use them as hunting trophies."

Meanwhile, others argued that this practice is legal in some areas of
South Africa.
