Dom[that's a Portugese princely honorific]
Luiz (Gastao Maria Jose Pio Miguel Gabriel Rafael Gonzaga)
of Orleans-Braganza,born June 6th 1938,died July 15th 2022

Since 1981 he had headed the "Vassouras" branch of the Brazilian
Imperial Family,which claims the succession to the deposed throne
there in competition with the "Petropolis" branch (descended from
the elder brother of Dom Luiz's grandfather,who was pressed into
a renunciation of his claims in 1908 that was not universally
regarded as valid.

Dom Luiz was the eldest son of previous Vassouras pretender
Dom Pedro Henrique,and was unmarried.
Second son Dom Eudes (since deceased),fourth son Dom Pedro,
fifth son Dom Diniz,seventh son Dom Francesco,and eighth son
Dom Alberto have all renounced their claims for themselves
and descendants because they married non-royals,and their
branch's claims depends on such renunciations being valid.
That leaves the unmarried third son Dom Bertrand (born 1941)
as the new pretender and royally-married sixth son Dom Antonio
(born 1950) and his children as next in line in their family,
then the only one of their four sisters to marry (royally) and
her children.

They are related to the French(Orleanist),Bavarian,
and Bourbon-Two-Sicilies pretenders.

Boy, Louis, I'm sure glad you explained that "Dom" is a Portuguese honorific, though I missed that important factoid on my first read-through!

That is, just skimming through your rundown, I feared the old (royal) man was another George Foreman--i.e., naming every son Dom, just as Foreman redundantly named all his sons George.

Oh, and speaking of Portuguese factoids: anyone herein know that what Holly Golightly says to Paul Varjak in the taxi toward the end of "Breakfast at Tiffany's" is actually true--that the language has some 4,000 irregular verbs?

(Or merely have I once again mistaken the magic of Hollywood for reality?)
