Hello,

I am currently playing around with optimization software applied to
approximations of match equities (simpler/more accurate than Neil's
numbers, Turner's formula, ...). As my Isight method was tuned to
real-life race decisions, it will probably likewise help a great deal to
know which match lengths are relevant for typical tournaments (it has
been a while since I last participated in an event). I expect that the
Nordic Open and the World Championship are somewhat outliers. Also there
seems to be a small trend toward best-of-x series of shorter matches, the
idea being that more interesting (in the sense of stark deviations from
money sessions) scores are more predominantly featured in this kind of
format. On online servers 5 and 7 pointers seem to dominate as well.

Do you frequently encounter match lengths of 11, 13, 15, or even beyond?

Best regards

Axel

BGOnline is probably a better forum for asking such a question.
While BGOnline is still a pale shadow of its former self, it has
regained some of its readership. For example, a recent post by
Jason Lee has almost 100 views as of this writing.

Not surprise I agree with Tim here, you should post on BGO ;) Only advanced players generally speaking are going to encounter match lengths beyond 11 points and even then it's not all that common, in the Main maybe, the Masters probably. In Denmark they run weekly where I believe the tournaments are 21 point matches.

OK, thanks, that helps.
