The urge to authoritarianism/totalitarianism - left, right,
theological, whatever - is ALWAYS there. Our history is just
replete with this (and we only have the last 10,000 years
written down). This is our nature, part of the human equation.

The trick is to RECOGNIZE when OPPORTUNITIES arise to kick
this dominating instinct into high gear and SHUT IT DOWN.
Nations that fail to apply such negative feedback in a
timely manner are doomed to years/decades/centuries worth
of a gun in their faces and a whip at their backs.

Each generation likes to think the world didn't REALLY
exist before they did - that history teaches nothing.
They don't "get it", they're "special", SO much smarter
than everyone who came before. Can't fool US !

And thus springs the phrase "history repeats". Those
who learn nothing do the same stupid shit over and
over and over .........
