Jeanne Calment had a hip replacement at 114,
Chiyo Miyako had a surgery at 116,
Fred Hale I believe was 112 when he had an endoscopic staple-assisted
diverticulotomy.

Three intriguing cases there, Louis; appreciate your finding or merely remembering them for citation.

Hendrikje Van Andel (1890-2005) might have lived longer
if her stomach cancer had been detected and operated upon.

bonk

115 years old? She must have shunned doctors and surgeons her whole
life. Good for her.

About 2/3 of stomach cancers are caused by an untreated infection of
Helicobacter pylori that's resulted in inflamation or an ulcer. It turns
out it's an amazingly treatable disease, but not at her age.

What I consider one of the most amazing things about her is that
she lived in an adjacent province of the Netherlands to Geert
Adriaans Boomgaard(1788-1899).
So if they had met (there is no evidence they did) someone alive
in the 21st century could have heard about the 18th from someone
who was there.

She had actually made arrangements decades before her death, long
before she achieved noteworthy longevity,to leave her body to
science...and it was the resulting autopsy that discovered a
tumor "the size of a small fist" that could have killed anyone.
(Most of the time the 110+ die from causes related to amyloidosis).
