The original Sesame Street ran in Israel in 1971. The Israeli Ministry
of Education had the show taken off the air soon afterward because, it
said, it wasn't educational enough. Rechov Sumsum didn't premiere
until 1983. I think they just plain didn't like the idea of Sesame
Street.
