Wednesday was park concert, Betsy made soba/chicken/Chinese broccoli salad, we also took along marinated octopus, stewed tofu, and seaweed salad from HMart.

2007 Huet Clos du Bourg Vouvray Sec
Lovely balance, exotic food blend of mango and citrus, plenty of wool, some waxy notes. Lovely and long. Drinking well, look forward to a Le Mont next.. A-

2020 Edmunds St John Bone Jolly Rose
Steve says this actually went through malo, which explains the rounder profile than other vintages. Cherry and watermelon, white pepper. Good acids. B

2019 Boschetti “Gomba” Dolcetto d'Alba
Good acids for Dolcetto, juicy fruit, moderate tannins. B

2013 Thivin “Reverdon” Brouilly
Holding well, cranberry and raspberry, good acids, but a bit short. Straightforward, not much has been gained by aging. B-

Cool for August, we took advantage to have a rare summer braised dish, buta kakuni (pork belly) with turnips. Served with rice, spinach, and the 2006 Chevillon Nuits St Georges VV. IN a nice place, cranberry and cherry with herbs and earth. Snappy, lively, with tannins mostly resolved. B+

Friday was hot again, grilled some spicy marinated chicken and some trumpet mushrooms, wine was the 2012 Schafer-Frohlich Felseneck Riesling Spatlese.. I think this will be a good wine, but this bottle was definitely in a dumb phase, muted and a little sullen, NR

I’ll do notes for Saturday’s Baconfest separately. Sunday was oysters, pasta with leeks and sea scallops, burrata caprese, and green beans. Wine was the 2018 Drouhin-Vaudon “Vaillons” Chablis 1er. I think I might have liked this more as “white Burgundy” than as “1er Chablis.” Round, rich, full with deep apple and pear flavors, a big ripe wine that didn’t have the chalky raciness I was hoping for B-

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C
drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice.Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.

Steve was sold out of this when we had dinner with him in June. Sorry
that we missed it!

2018 was a tough year in Chablis: too hot. I think that, apart from a
few exceptional growers, most '18 Chablis will be short on the raciness
index ;-)
