I suspect being in CA has a lot to do with it. I am quite sure they're not that
much here.

A big Mac here starts at $6.29 and if you loaded up with all the extras you
can get it up to $9.88.

A big Mac meal (fries and a drink) starts at $12.19.

A big Mac pack (adds fries and nuggets, two of everything) starts at
$21.99. If you want meat and cheese you can get that up to $27.57.

So if you only go with the $21.99 pack, you don't get any meat or cheese
on your Macs?

It’s arguable that you get meat or cheese on anything at McDonald’s.

You can get a great burger and fries at McDonald's for a decent price.
You just need to be willing to travel out of the country to get it.
It's crazy but McDonald's overseas in France, in SE Asia all have good
food available but here in the USA we get at best edible food. No one
goes to MickeyD's for a great burger in the USA. They go because it's
familiar and it used to be relatively cheap up until a few years ago.

I don't think that is possible in the USA for any price. (To be fair
they do serve real meat, it's just not high quality or well prepared.
The cheese is the standard processed cheese that has come to be almost
expected for a burger topping that contains real cheese but also other
additives and so can't be labeled as cheese, but is called processed
cheese. Which is better quality than "cheese food".)
