There are any number of other movies with the same title. This has
nothing to do with the rest.

Dakota is a Belgian Malinois, trained to serve with a Marine unit in
Afghanistan. The dog can sniff out volatile chemicals and combustable and
is pretty good at spotting IEDs and mines. His handler dies in action
and C.J. (Tim Rozon), one of the men in the unit, is given permission
to take the dog, now retired and with some PTSD, back to the widow Kate
(Abbie Cornish) and her daughter Alex (Lola Sultan). He's been re-assigned
to Camp Lejeune and the family's farm is in Camden, Georgia. I guess the
distances aren't that great. He's on a 7 day pass.

The widow is Kate (Abbie Cornish), the daughter is Alex (Lola Sultan).
The Marine is C.J. (Tim Rozon)

The plot, what little there is of it, isn't consistent. Sheriff Danforth
(Patrick Muldoon) is determined to buy the farm, which the widow is
about to lose. Of course, the widow isn't shown doing any farming. The
daughter does morning chores to milk the cow and take eggs from the
chickens. There's no farm stand and how they were making a go of it
makes no sense.

Kate is also the one-woman fire department. They said specifically
"volunteer" but we learn later that she's the chief. There is some
compensation but "volunteer" just means it's not a full-time job, not
unpaid. Sometimes there's a second woman who is the mechanic for the
fire engine that barely runs and has no ladders.

It didn't look like a tanker but she goes on a call later in the movie
on a farm, no fireplugs, and they're able to pump water.

The sheriff's motives are contradictory. Is it revenge? He blamed the
dead marine's father Monty (William Baldwin) for taking the farm from
his father but the bank sold it at a foreclosure auction. Monty
transferred the farm's title to his son and new bride as a wedding gift.

But somehow the sheriff knows there's something valuable about the land
that his father, Monty, and Monty's son knew nothing about.

During emergency calls, Kate keeps getting knocked on her back and
doesn't get up. On the first call, there's a cat stuck in a tree, but
the dog rescues the cat, probably the best scene in the movie. In
another scene, it's implied that the dog can climb down a firepole. The
dog fights a sheriff's henchman at the firehouse by dropping a shoe on
his head. When they try to figure out why the fire station was
burglarized, the dog points out that breathing hoses on the firemen's
gear was cut.

Ok. This is a big-time felony, either attempted murder of a fireman or
an attempt to prevent a fire from being put out. Nothing is done with
this in the movie.

The sheriff hates both C.J. (whom he repeatedly calls "soldier boy"
knowing the guy is a Marine) and the dog.

He's worried that the dog is able to sniff out the Upsidasium that the
land is rich with, and yes, the dog can indeed sniff out the mineral.
That dog can do anything.

Another deputy is Mike (Roberto Davide), the sheriff's younger brother
but honest. Mike's son is Ethan (Lorenzo McGovern Zaini) who helps
because he often overhears his uncle plotting. He helps Alex break
Dakota out of the sheriff's station as the sheriff had his evil henchmen
grab her!

At the end of the movie, Alex and Dakota go on a quest based on maps her
father left her. We think it's something to do with the Upsidasium but
it's just a spiritual quest for the daughter.

The sheriff tries to burn the farm down and as witnesses arrive,
continues his arson. Setting a fire, the dog leaps over the flames and
digs a tiny fire pit which prevents the trail of volatiles from setting
teh house on fire. They do lose the chicken coup.

The sheriff's brother reveals the existence of Upsidasium, and yup, the
dog has been digging it up all over the farm.

The box had a cute dog on the cover. You probably have better things to
do with your time than watch this.

I saw one credit for Italian casting but no other hint about locations.
Some of the supporting actors have Italian surnames. Maybe they flew a
few cast members to Italy and maybe that was Afghanistan. But there were
scenes in what looked like a somewhat prosperous small town downtown.
Gelato is a plot point!
