Buffy has started hiding again, off and on. In the last day or so she
has started fighting me giving her the liquid pain medication. She did
sleep with me last night but when I got up this morning to dish up her
food, fresh water, etc. she got off the bed and hid on the chair under
the dining table. I went about getting ready for work. While I was in
the shower she came out and ate half the food, then went back up on the
chair again.

I know it's uncomfortable if I have to force her mouth open. I wish,
wish, wish! she could understand the cause and effect: she feels a heck
of a lot better within minutes if she simply opens her mouth a tiny bit
without my having to wrangle with her and touch the sore spot on her
jaw. It takes *one* second to squirt the medication in her mouth.

I picked up refills of the medication after work today. They want to
see her again on June 18th. If she continues in this vein I'm afraid
that Friday appointment could be her last. :(

Thank you. She has absolutely refused to let me medicate her since I
posted that. I'm about to try again just to see if I can make her feel
better for a little while. I changed the appointment to tomorrow,
10/11. Tonight will be my last night with her. :( My heart is breaking
but I know it's the right thing to do.

I am thinking of you - all the more because I had to bring Cinnamon in
when she suddenly worsened badly, only days after the vet thought she'd
be good til the fall. I pretty well knew I wouldn't be bringing her
home. I could still medicate Cinnamon, but she wouldn't eat or unless I
syringe fed her and was so lethargic and weak. I just knew, and I guess
you do too.

Yes. And my heart goes out to you about Cinnamon. It's so sad how
quickly they can decline and that decision has to be made.

When I got home I found she had eaten a few bites of her gooshy food.
She had urinated a little in the litter box. She was curled up on her
crackle sack and I was able to get some of the pain medication in her
mouth. But she YOWLED at me and she's back on the chair under the
table. I can't keep putting her through this. It's time.

driving home with an empty carrier.

Buffy started her life as a feral, part of a TNR program on Dataw.
Hence the notched ear in this picture:

She was taken in very early after that and became completely socialized
and an indoor only love bug cat. I adopted her after her human died in
2015. I am very grateful I had six wonderful years with a loving
snuggle bug. I do wish she'd sleep with me tonight but I know that
isn't going to happen. :( She'll be out of pain tomorrow.

I'm so sorry, but any animal lover has been there, usually FAR too
many times.

My current cat, GLyN, was abandoned by my landlord's Son in 2009, and
has been with me since then. He's still very healthy, and mostly only
comes in for food and attention for an hour or 3, and almost never
sleeps on my bed. IF it's rainy, maybe.

I know that if *I* live long enough, I'll lose him, but for now, I'm
happy when he comes in and head-butts me.

Good God woman!! Where's your sense of compassion and decency? You're
keeping this poor animal alive strictly for your own selfish needs. If
the cat is truly suffering, do the right thing and euthanize her. If you
don't have the courage to do it yourself, you can send her to me

:) I'm glad to hear he's still very healthy. May that continue for a
long time.

I will miss Buffy trying to distract me from reading a book. I'd be
stretched out on the couch and she'd be snoozing at my feet. Then she'd
come up and give herself ear scritches on the corner of the book. If it
was a softback book, it didn't work quite so well. LOL I'd reach out
and give her ear scritches and talk to her. Sometimes she'd plop her
head down in the middle of the spine of the book at look at me. That
was funny! Okay, okay, scritches and I'll put the book down. :) But
mostly she just got some scritches and went back for a snooze by by
feet. She was a real snuggle bug. :)
