An interesting article listing many examples of "legislating from the
bench" by the Supreme Court of Canada, which the author says is the most
activist Supreme Court in the *world*.

I think that's standard garb for Supreme Court justices in this country,
at least for formal photo-shoots. (I'm not sure if that's how they
actually dress in court but suspect it is.) I assume it's modeled on the
British Supreme Court, minus the wigs.

By contrast, the famous red serge uniform of the Mounties is NOT what
they normally wear on duty but only for ceremonial parades involving The
Musical Ride.

Not just the Musical Ride - for ceremonial occasions of all sorts - I
recently attended the swearing in of our municipal council and the red
serge was definitely being worn. Ditto November 11th observations.

What I am unsure of is whether present day Mounties who happen to be
ex-military (some are, most aren't) are still allowed to wear their
military medals on their RCMP uniforms. It used to be the case, don't
know if that's ever been changed.
