A New York Mets legend has died

New York Mets legend Hobie Landrith has died, according to multiple
reports.

He was 93.

Landrith spent 14 years in Major League Baseball hitting .233 with 34
homers and 203 RBIs. He was never an All-Star, and really just one of his
home runs and seven of his RBIs came in a Mets uniform.

Those are hardly legend-like numbers, but when it comes to the Mets it is
hard to argue that he doesn't hold a legendary spot with the franchise.
And that's because he was the "Original Met." Landrith was the first
player New York took in the 1961 expansion draft. He was the team's
starting catcher for the first game in franchise history, too.
