George Thorogood & The Destroyers has canceled the spring dates of its
50th-anniversary tour due to a “serious medical condition.”

The powerhouse rock band kicked off the tour on the Rock Legends Cruise
X in February before returning to land for further dates through March.
After a month’s break, the tour was set to resume at the end of April in
Vancouver, BC, and run through May 21.

However, a press release has now confirmed that those dates have been
canceled due to Thorogood being diagnosed with a “very serious medical
condition that will require immediate surgery and quite a few weeks of
recuperation and healing.”

The statement continued to say: “You, our fans, mean the world to us,
and we know this news is not what you wanted to hear, but rest assured
George Thorogood & The Destroyers will be back, We’ll keep you updated
as we know more.”

Ticket holders can obtain a refund from their point of purchase. The Bad
All Over The World – 50 Years Of Rock tour is currently scheduled to
restart in July, beginning in Jefferson, WI, on July 14. From there, the
band is set to perform across the US, wrapping up in Bethlehem, PA, on
October 20. You can find full details on the band’s tour dates on
Thorogood’s official website.

Speaking about the tour upon its announcement last year, Thorogood said:
“From that very first show, we’ve stayed true to ourselves and the music
we love. We’ve decided to celebrate our first half-century by throwing
the biggest and baddest rock party ever.”

Last year, Thorogood’s illustrious career was celebrated with the
release of The Original George Thorogood collection, which collated the
star’s best work. The compilation showcased the range of the revered
musician’s output, bringing together the likes of the driving anthem
“Gear Jammer,” barnburners like “I Really Like Girls,” and the heartfelt
country ballad “Oklahoma Sweetheart,” among others.

Still marvel at that early '80s (or late '70s?) rockers-of-ages stunt pulled off by the generally-exhilerating George Thoroughgood & The Destroyers: playing 50 gigs in 50 states in 50 days, including of course their home state of Delaware. (And still wondering how they got their war horse of a station wagon either to or from Hawaii in less than 24 hours.)

Hope the slide-guitar-slinging frontman gets well soon and continues rockin' on as our society so sadly descends.

So,nothing certain yet as to when he will be back in Thorogood health?
Or details on what Destroyed it?

Rather odd wording in the press release. It is fine if he wishes not to disclose the nature of his surgery.
If that is the case, there is no reason to mention a “very serious medical condition". Have never seen a press release like that.
Best to say that he is taking a medical leave to have surgery and plans to return in a few months and leave it at that.

So, it was a good ol' roomy Checker that The Destroyers covered the Lower 48 in, eh? While no one ever mentioned Checker to me over the years, several DID claim it was a wagon. (Or maybe they just ASSUMED that, figuring you'd need a wagon for all the band's gear?) In any case, few people remember that Checker DID make a few station wagons; any idea if it was one of those, or merely a sedan? In any case, never heard mention of Checker previously concerning that legendary tour, so thanks much for setting me straight!

Meanwhile, any info about their surely-flown-to Hawaii gig? I presume that one was either Performance #1 or Performance #50, right? (I'm imagining they flew to Honolulu for #50 after hustling the sturdy Checker up to Anchorage for #49 after playing #48 in Seattle/Tacoma?)

And do you have the beginning and ending dates of this historical rock music stunt that every serious rock fan should be familiar with, though few are? (I cite the remarkable sojourn often whenever discussing the history of rock, yet seldom has the person I've been talking to heard of it.)

Meanwhile, we're losing too many classic rockers these days; sure hope Thorogood back on his feet soon.

It makes perfect sense to me. There's elective surgery. There's surgery
that's medically necessary, but can be scheduled for a convenient time. A
lot of people would look down on someone canceling a planned tour for
either of those. This announcement makes it clear that there was no
alternative but to cancel the tour.

That would have been a good plan but they did the other option: Hawaii
to Alaska to Oregon at the beginning of the tour.
