Herb Douglas ran track and field in the 1948 London Olympics and got a
bronze in broad jump. He died at age 101. His was relatively old for his
first Olympics, but then, WWII had ruined everything. London had not
been rebuilt so this Olympics were held admist rubble and post-war
poverty.

It said that the United States government had to fly food in for the
athletes.
